Curriculum
Balinese Architecture & Landscape (2 ECTS)
Bali's unique architecture and beautiful landscape make it a popular tourist attraction. Balinese architecture is recognizable throughout the world for its traditional yet modern qualities. Architecture in Bali, particularly in the resort and hospitality industry, reflects and embraces the qualities of Bali's topography.
Bali Resort & Hospitality Design (2 ECTS)
This course reflects the belief that Bali is one of Asia's best tourist destinations, notable for its exceptional hospitality and exclusive resorts. Bali Resort and Hospitality Design provides a comprehensive approach to holiday resort architecture and hospitality design by allowing students to experience what sets Bali apart personally.
Interior Design & Amenities (2 ECTS)
This module on the elements of interior design provides a basis for studying traditional and ethnic Balinese amenities and features. Upon completion of the course, participants will be familiar with the basic compositional elements of interior design in the context of traditional Balinese amenities, such as decoration and tradition, materials and details, Zen, Ethnicity & Lifestyle.
Natural Materials & Green Design (2 ECTS)
Students will be exposed to natural materials, textures, colors, and the groundwork on how to implement these elements into green design. This course also covers the types of materials that can be used sustainably, as well as green and ecological design principles, methods, and materials. Outdoor lectures and a visit to a bamboo workshop will provide a contextual understanding of the material.
Studio Project (4 ECTS)
The topic of the Architecture Studio project is "East-West Harmony". Participants will have the opportunity to design and propose an architectural project for a boutique holiday resort or villa in Bali. The studio module is meant to challenge the student's preconceptions about design trends in holiday resorts and to enable them to think critically about local Eastern architecture & Western tourism demands.
