Key Summary
SFA’s Bachelor of Science in computer science graduates highly trained students educated in either computer science, computer information systems, or information technology.
With three distinct majors to choose from, SFA’s Department of Computer Science teaches the discipline of sound logic, stable architecture and best practices in programming and analysis, honing professional skills that will serve you for a lifetime.
We know internships are an integral part of education. Our advisory council works with local and state partners to give our students an array of internship opportunities that mirror the job market. Every semester, the College of Sciences and Mathematics hosts an Undergraduate Research Conference for our students to share the research they’ve conducted alongside dedicated faculty members. This research includes artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, deep learning and more.
Our student-to-faculty ratio is 17:1, meaning you will receive a personalized education from dedicated faculty and staff who are involved in classes and labs. Your education culminates with a capstone project, which is a multidisciplinary effort with your peers.
Mission Statement
The mission of the SFA Department of Computer Science is to prepare students for successful careers in the technology-oriented fields of computer science, computer information systems, data analytics and information technology through high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs facilitated by the effective use of learning environments, research opportunities and education resources. The emphasis on analytical problem-solving, ethical behaviour and a life-long desire for learning prepares students for leadership and service as a computing professional.
Learn the language of the digital age
To some people, the computer is a magic box that makes spreadsheets and plays cat videos. To you, the computer is a tool of infinite versatility with inner workings that can solve complex problems and create new worlds. The language of logic is the universal tongue of the Digital Age, and computer science is the art of becoming fluent in it.
Whether you’re seeing the possibilities for the first time or you’ve been coding since kindergarten, computer science will teach you the discipline of sound logic, stable architecture and best practices in programming and analysis, honing professional skills that will serve you for a lifetime.
