Doctoral students complete a dissertation and 70 credits, spread across research, course work, and seminars. Choose from courses in analytical, organic, physical, inorganic, and biochemistry, including Chemical Kinetics, Quantum Chemistry, and Proteins. In your final year, you’ll present a full seminar on your research contributions. Students who enter the program with an M.S. must complete at least 40 additional credits to earn their Ph.D.

Goals
- All graduate students will have an advanced fundamental knowledge of the broad disciplines of chemistry and be prepared to assume highly responsible scientific leadership positions in industry, government, or academia.
- Through completion of the dissertation, doctoral students will be able to conceive, perform, and present an original research project for peer review.
- All graduate students will have the critical thinking, writing, and presentation skills to solve complex problems and express the results to both scientific and broader audiences.
The time limit for completion of the doctorate in chemistry spans a minimum of three years after entry into the graduate program to a maximum of five years after matriculation for the degree.
