The Applied Research and Innovation Certificate training program is comprised of part-time and full-time internships with Selkirk Innovates, providing 400 hours of experiential learning focused on addressing real-world challenges through applied research. Each internship provides technical and professional, on-the-job skills training. Faculty provide interns with discipline-specific advisory and mentorship support. Learners are provided with the opportunity to engage in applied research focused on addressing partner needs. Interns work with their faculty advisor and external partner(s) to scope projects, undertake applied research, and provide agreed upon deliverables to partners (e.g., research report, 3D printed prototypes, development of a new/revised data analytic pipeline). Pending grant and partner funding, paid internships may be offered through an ‘earn while you learn’ competitive and hiring process.

Are you a musician looking to expand and develop your craft, with a focus on performance and recording? Join us to explore the world of musical creativity. This comprehensive course will take you through writing and playing instruments/vocals to performance, record contracts and studio production. Course topics include: stagecraft, recording/mixing/mastering, artist rights/registering and publishing finished productions using online tools. Gain further understanding of the roles and responsibilities in the recording or live stage environment, such as room acoustics & microphone usage and how to prepare for & how to avoid tech obstacles. We will also discuss music business options and a look at performing rights associations for registering and collecting royalties on works. MAPL (Canadian content requirements) will also be discussed.

Eligible students take six Education Assistant & Community Support Worker (EACSW) courses to receive their CSW Associate Certificate and they then have the opportunity to ladder into the EACSW regular certificate program if they choose to continue their education.

BC Low Energy Code

Be the one keeping your community or organization safe. If you are 19 years of age or older and looking to apply for a Security Worker License in BC, this training is for you. This course focuses on providing a foundation in professionalism and ethics, legal studies, report writing and personal safety. Students who successfully complete the course and final exam are eligible to apply for a BC Security Worker Licence.

Courses also include a review of health and safety regulations, WHMIS training, and workplace professionalism. This course is based on the ISSA Canada and Cleaning Management Institute\xbfs cleaning practices and standards. Students are provided with the knowledge and practical skills for entry into the building service industry in custodial work, and upgrading for those who are currently employed in the industry.

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) for Restricted Firearms at Selkirk College provides comprehensive training on the safe handling, storage, and transportation of restricted firearms in Canada. Participants learn about relevant laws, regulations, and responsibilities associated with owning and using restricted firearms.

Selkirk College is endorsed by Skilled Trades BC to deliver all four levels of Carpentry Apprenticeship Technical Training to registered carpentry apprentices. Each level of training consists of a full-time (30 hours per week), seven-week, on-campus program of study. Activities include classroom sessions where as an apprentice you will learn theoretical principles of carpentry, and shop sessions where knowledge is put to use in the mastery of practical skills.
