Key Summary
About: The BSc in European Studies examines regional, national, and transnational structures using political science, cultural studies, history, and economics. It builds theory, factual knowledge, and analytical skills across politics and institutions, European integration, regional development, and international co-operation. You’ll design, manage, report, and communicate development projects. Small classes, case-based teaching, close lecturer contact, study or internship abroad options, and legal access to the Master in Cultural Sociology at SDU.
Career Outcomes: Career opportunities include public administration, EU and international institutions, consultancies, NGOs, development agencies, research and education, advocacy groups, embassies; roles also include policy analyst, project manager, research officer, communications officer, diplomatic staff.
The BSc in European Studies analyses regional, national, and transnational structures and developments, introducing approaches from political science, cultural studies, history, and economics. The program is interdisciplinary and aims at providing the student with theoretical understanding, factual knowledge, and analytical abilities in four main areas:
- Politics and Institutions
- Historical foundations of European integration
- Regional development
- International co-operation
As a graduate, you will be able to employ methods enabling you to independently generate, organize, report, and manage development projects with a regional, national, and/or European focus. You will furthermore be able to communicate the results to stakeholders, policymakers, and the broader public in general.

The European Studies bachelor program includes a legal claim to access to the Master in Cultural Sociology at SDU.
Program structure
The program runs for a period of six semesters (3 years) and is set at 180 ECTS.
At the university, we use ECTS credits for measuring study programs, and 60 ECTS credits are the equivalent of a full year of study.
Study abroad OR project-based course (internship) is possible in the 5th semester.
Career opportunities with education in European Studies
It is expected that the demand for well-qualified candidates with knowledge in regional, European, and international issues will be increasing. There will be possibilities for employment in areas such as:
- Public administration and business organizations at a regional, national, and international level
- Consultancies, NGO’s, development agencies, and advocacy groups
- Institutions within research and education
Graduates will be able to find employment in European and international institutions dealing with European or transnational problems, for example:
- The European Union, the Council of Europe, OECD, OSCE, Interpol
- Embassies and permanent representations, state administration, and subnational authorities
- Amnesty International, Transparency International, Oxfam

There are also other master's programs to choose from at SDU.
As a graduate of social sciences, you will generally have greater opportunities for finding jobs, than if you choose to stop after your bachelor’s program.
