Introduction
The English Course of the Foreign Language Center of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (or CLi-FLUL) is designed for non-native speakers who want to learn or improve the English language. The English course is organized according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, with all six levels available, from A1 to C2.
CLi-FLUL is a unit of the School of Art and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. It offers quality language courses and strict teaching standards that are based on the high qualifications and motivation of its teachers. This unit's main objective is to contribute to the communication between speakers of foreign languages from different parts of the globe, offering various types of courses in Foreign Languages. These courses are aimed at different audiences, seeking to respond to the growing need to learn foreign languages, both in academia and in the surrounding community.
Knowledge of languages and cultures opens up new imaginaries and new representations, making the speaker more flexible and richer in his/her mother tongue. We believe that promoting the dialogue between different languages is the first step to open minds, leading to a much more tolerant, multicultural and better world.

Curriculum
Classes focus on the various aspects that allow mastering a language (comprehension, writing, orality), promoting interaction between participants, through the use of appropriate audiovisual resources. Our team practices teaching methods in line with the demands of today’s job market, without neglecting a contact that is intended to be close and attentive to each student.
There are 3 periods of courses available throughout the year:
- 1st semester (October-February),
- 2nd semester (February-June)
- and summer (July).
Both in-person courses and online courses are offered, so that students can choose between the regime that best suits their needs.
