Introduction
The Bachelor of Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper, Level I, Certificate of Achievement provides students with the foundational knowledge in GAAP-based accounting to be applied to an entry-level position. There are a variety of career opportunities for students completing the Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper, Level I, Certificate of Achievement. Students may find employment at:
1. Entry-level Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper, under supervision, for small partnerships or corporations.
2. Entry-level Accounting Clerk or Accounting Data Processor, under supervision, for medium or large proprietorships, partnerships, or corporations.
SBCC offers a Transfer Agreement Guarantee (TAG). A TAG is a contractual agreement between the student, SBCC, and specific four-year colleges or universities. This includes six University of California ( *UC) institutions, six California State Institutions (CSU), seven California private institutions, nine out-of-state institutions, as well as Honors Transfer Agreements with ten institutions and 8 CSUs without campus impaction. Admissions
Scholarships and Funding
Enrolled students may apply one time per year in February. If awarded, the money is disbursed for the following academic year in two parts: half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. The amounts range from very small: $100-750 and larger $1000-2500 with some variations in between.

ACCT 110 Introduction to Accounting (4 Units)

The basic theory of accounts. Principles of a sole proprietorship, including concepts of how to keep manual or computerized financial records for small businesses.

ACCT 120 Accounting for Nonprofit Organizations (2 Units)
Hours: 36 (36 lectures)
Practical information to accountants and non-accountants alike. Focuses on fundamental nonprofit accounting principles with a step-by-step introduction to keeping accounting (manual and Quickbooks) records. Covers more advanced topics including budgets, internal controls, fund accounting, functional accounting, direct and indirect cost allocations, generating financial statements, a basic overview of auditing preparation, and tax filing requirements.

ACCT 130 Payroll Accounting (4 Units)
Prerequisites: ACCT 110 or ACCT 230.
Hours: 72 (72 lectures)
Study and application of payroll accounting concepts, procedures, and related internal controls. Specialized areas: Federal and state payroll taxes, withholdings, preparation and filing of governmental forms, record keeping systems and procedures.

ACCT 150 Introduction To Accounting Software And Systems (4 Units)
Prerequisites: ACCT 110 or ACCT 230.

Review of computer application software programs used in financial and managerial accounting. Topics include implementing and using computerized accounting programs, spreadsheet software, and managerial systems relating to corporate culture and business ethics.

ACCT 160 Accounting With Quickbooks (3 Units)
Prerequisites: ACCT 110 or ACCT 230 or ACTV NC101 and ACTV NC102.

Review and application of accounting principles using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online software. Topics include setting up business books and working with inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, financial statements, and reports.

ACCT 170 Accounting With MS Dynamics (2.5 Units)
Prerequisites: ACCT 110 or ACCT 230.
Corequisites: COMP 170.

Introduction to Microsoft Dynamics, a computerized accounting application, widely used by small, medium, and large-sized businesses and accounting firms. Topics include general ledger and payroll accounting, accounting applications for accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, inventory, payroll, income tax preparation, and financial statements.

ACCT 215 Fundamentals Of Income Tax (4 Units)

Study and application of federal income tax law as it relates to individuals and small businesses (proprietorships). Partnerships, corporation, and fiduciary tax principles. Differences between federal and state laws are noted.

Application of financial accounting principles and procedures for corporations. Preparation, use, and analysis of financial statements. Includes internal controls of an accounting system, accounting for cash, receivables, inventories, property and equipment, intangibles, investments, current and long-term liabilities, contributed capital, and retained earnings.

Regulatory review of accounting civil law, regulations, and standards specific to the practice of accounting in the state of California. Leadership skills are needed to be leaders in the accounting community with a commitment to ethics, excellence, and best practices.
