Key Summary
About: Get hands-on with chemistry fundamentals and analytical instrumentation to analyze laboratory samples and gain techniques, quality control and chemical analysis skills. You’ll earn a SAIT diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology, with national accreditation from the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board and Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists. Eligible students may take a 12-month paid work placement to build experience.
Career Outcomes: Graduates work as chemical technologists, laboratory or research technologists, technical assistant and technical sales/service specialists in petroleum and natural gas, petrochemicals, metallurgical refining, food and beverage processing, agriculture and environmental consulting. Related roles include environmental consultant and process operator.
Get hands-on with the basics of chemistry to begin your career as a chemical, laboratory or research technologist in a number of industries, from petroleum and natural gas to environmental consulting.
In the Chemical Laboratory Technology program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of chemistry and get hands-on experience using analytical instrumentation to analyze laboratory samples. Eligible students may also participate in a 12-month paid work placement program.
As a Chemical Laboratory Technologist, you’ll work in a wide range of industrial and research settings.
Credentials and accreditation
After successfully completing this program, graduates will receive a SAIT diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology.
Accreditation
The program is nationally accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board and by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists. Graduates can also register with the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists and Chemical Institute of Canada.
