What you can expect from your degree
If you’re looking to launch a career in film, SAE’s Film Production degree will get you there much quicker than a similar course at a traditional university. Taught over 2 rather than 3 years, you’ll learn essential technical film production skills and theoretical knowledge studying this film production accelerated degree, so you can succeed in your chosen area of the film industry – whether that’s as a director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor or another role entirely.
As an SAE student, you’ll get hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art film production environment, using industry-leading equipment to make your films such as Sony, Panasonic and Canon cameras, DaVinci Resolve colour grading software, Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer for video editing. Across the course, you’ll experience the entire production workflow involved in making a film – from story development and script writing, pre-production planning and storyboarding, to filming and editing and, finally, marketing and distribution. You’ll also have access to SAE’s first-rate facilities, like green screens, cyclorama soundstages, animation studios and high-tech lighting rigs, to help bring your creative ideas to life.

1st Trimester
Develop the essential technical film skills and knowledge needed to collaborate with professionals and your fellow creative media students.

2nd Trimester
Across your second term, you’ll hone your skills in both film production and post-production. You’ll gain experience in a variety of production roles, learning the post-production processes involved in finalising a film for distribution.

3rd Trimester
Across Trimester 3, you’ll undertake a variety of film-specific project briefs in a professional working environment using a project-based ‘creative studio’ approach. Creative Studio sees you take part in real-world assessment activities that reflect current film industry practices – guaranteeing a highly practical educational journey.

4th Trimester
The second Creative Studio term focuses on collaborative film production skills, as you put together a creative team to develop, produce and distribute a range of film projects.

As you near the end of your studies, you’ll start to specialise, advancing your skills across your chosen area of the film production industry by selecting from one of 3 optional modules.
