The Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Production (JMP) program at SHU is an intensive hands-on approach to learning for the Broadcast Journalist, Commercial Photography, Photojournalist, Videographer, Documentary Filmmaker, Media Production, Post-Production Editing and Live Television Production Specialist.

Today, journalism and multimedia production is in the midst of a revolution in communicating and communicating in the future. It is driven predominantly by two factors: rapidly changing technology and economics. The digital journalist and production specialist is emerging as the model of the future. Our program focuses on the “Next Generation of Media Production.”

JMP students will focus on this new concept and be ready to enter the workforce. Students will develop the technical, editorial and theoretical skills necessary for preparation as a digital journalist and production specialist throughout the program. Emphasis will be placed on research, writing, ethics, interviewing, reporting, producing, directing, field recording, audio, and video editing. The student must master all of these skills and be prepared to work in all of the emerging formats of new media. Hands-on classes will guide students through distinct photo, video, studio and field event projects that will incorporate all of the necessary skills required for your professional career. The student has an opportunity to design a flexible educational experience within the framework of the curriculum.
