Key Summary
The Political Science degree program aims to provide students with a scientific understanding of social phenomena that would enable them to uncover the roots of common perceptions and practices, challenge them when necessary, and come up with policy proposals when possible. Such an ambitious goal necessitates the students to be equipped with a knowledge of political theory and history, as well as of political economy and methodological tools in social sciences. In addition to the required and core courses which will provide such basic information and analytical perspectives, the students can choose either to concentrate in one of the areas governance or political thought or can design their coursework in such a way to combine these areas with courses from other social science disciplines in order to get a broad training.
Starting from 2020-2021 academic year, our two programs, Political Science and International Studies, will welcome its new students under a combined program: Political Science and International Relations.
Program Objectives
The Political Science undergraduate program was born out of a recognition of the increasing significance of cross-disciplinary studies in the social sciences. The program is organized around the combined perspectives and analytical tools of Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, and History. The Political Science degree furnishes the students with a unique multidisciplinary approach in social sciences and prepares them for further academic study and/or for careers in the public and the private sector.

Education System
At SU, students have the chance to choose their majors after their first or second academic year. This allows students to decide what program to study at university with greater understanding about higher education and about their own academic and career interests and talents.
Medium of Instruction and Language Proficiency
The medium of instruction at Sabancı University is English. All undergraduates are required to take the Sabancı University English Language Assessment Exam (ELAE). Students who pass this exam begin their undergraduate programs while those who do not meet the standards of English language proficiency enroll into School of Languages. School of Languages is the English prep school where students learn English for one semester or one year depending on their English proficiency level.
The students who can certify that they have passed one of the national and/or international foreign language examinations at a level determined by the university are entitled to begin undergraduate programs. Common Outcomes of all Bachelor Programs:
- Understand the world, their country, their society, as well as themselves and have awareness of ethical problems, social rights, values, and responsibility to the self and to others.
- Understand different disciplines from natural and social sciences to mathematics and art, and develop interdisciplinary approaches in thinking and practice.
- Think critically, follow innovations and developments in science and technology, demonstrate personal and organizational entrepreneurship, and engage in life-long learning in various subjects.
- Communicate effectively in Turkish and English by oral, written, graphical, and technological means.
- Take individual and team responsibility, function effectively and respectively as an individual and a member or a leader of a team, and have the skills to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.

- Develop knowledge of theories, concepts, and research methods in humanities and social sciences.

Program Specific Outcomes of Bachelor of Arts in Political Sciences Program:
- Understand and follow changes in patterns of political behavior, ideas, and structures.
- Develop the ability to make logical inferences about social and political issues on the basis of comparative and historical knowledge.
