Introduction

The MSc Project Management for Sustainability is a pioneering programme designed for the new era of sustainable development in businesses, charities and NGOs (non-governmental organisations). This master’s programme seamlessly combines the principles of sustainability with the rigour of project management, preparing graduates to lead with a unique blend of environmental awareness and practical management skills.

You will also be offered the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised industry qualification, PRINCE2.7® Foundation and PRINCE2.7® Practitioner.

PRINCE2 is a process-based method for effective project management, and will give you the fundamental skills you need to become a successful project manager. It stands for PRojects IN Controlled Environments, and is used and recognised all over the world.

On this MSc programme you’ll explore the principles and practice of project management and discover the influence of successful project management on any organisation, with a particular emphasis on improving organisational sustainability.

On this programme you’ll gain a thorough introduction to project management practices, giving you key insights into various areas of leadership, communication, stakeholder management, intelligent systems, risk and budget management and conflict management. As the focus of your studies, you’ll also learn about sustainability and sustainable development.

Skills in planning, quality management, risk control and communication are essential to the smooth running of projects whether they are large-scale operational changes in multinationals or the management of smaller NGOs and charities. There is a real need in industry for experienced project managers who understand organisational issues and have the skills to ensure that sustainability is at the forefront of each project.

The programme is designed for full engagement, with a structure that mirrors actual project stages, providing experiential learning from conception to completion.

The skills that you will gain through studying this project management programme are transferable to a wide variety of organisations – healthcare, events, public sector, community groups, information technology, and logistics.

This cross-disciplinary MSc extends the University’s existing Liberal Arts programme at undergraduate level to a master’s programme which blends business and management with social sciences through global sustainable development, incorporating communications and the arts with computer science.

You will be offered the opportunity to gain an internationally recognised industry qualification, PRINCE2.7® Foundation and PRINCE2.7® Practitioner.

You will also gain two degrees, one from the UK and one from the US, creating more opportunities on graduation.

This programme is offered with two options, either:

  • If your first language isn’t English, you can take Advanced English for Business Studies, which is designed to enhance language abilities and improve communication skills in academic contexts

Or

  • If your first language is English, you can take Business Communications Skills, exploring the role of business communication in running modern business and developing professional business communication skills

With the growing recognition of sustainability as a core organisation practice, there’s no better time to study a master’s project management degree with sustainability at its heart.
