Key Summary

About: The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics focuses on equipping you with essential mathematical theories and techniques. You'll engage in problem-solving, data analysis, and computational methods tailored for real-world applications in various fields.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can pursue careers in finance, engineering, data analysis, and academia. Potential roles include mathematicians, analysts, financial consultants, and data scientists, among others.

Randolph-Macon College recently launched a new Applied Mathematics major, which builds upon the college’s existing Mathematics major, complements the college’s rigorous and comprehensive liberal arts curriculum and presents a wealth of opportunities for students, both while at R-MC and after graduation.

Applied Mathematics sits at the intersection of mathematics, science and engineering. Many scientific studies begin with a mathematical model, which encodes the scientist’s understanding of how the world works. Logical implications of the model form testable predictions, which can then be compared with data from the real world. Because the mathematical model tracks the entire scientific process, an applied mathematician must be prepared to work with various tools: proofs, computer code, simulations, visualizations, data and more.
