Key Summary
The Master of Engineering (MEng) is a coursework-based graduate program that provides a mixture of technical and professional skills to give students a distinct career advantage. The program is designed for students who are interested in learning advanced engineering skills in a specific area of specialization to enhance employment opportunities.
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department M.Eng. degree has three (3) different options: course-based, course-based with an academic project, and course-based with an internship. Once accepted into the program, students can apply to enter the internship route.
Program Options
1. Course-Based Program (2 terms)
The requirements for the course-based MEng program option are 8 term-length graduate courses, ELEC 891 seminar course, and APSC 801 Master of Engineering Foundations course. The students must attend department seminars to complete ELEC 891, the mandatory seminar series course.
- 4 courses must be graduate courses offered in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
- 4 remaining courses may be chosen from the courses listed by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, or another Queen's department, or from the Royal Military College.
- A maximum of 2 fourth-year Queen’s undergraduate courses or 2 double numbered graduate courses (also known as combined undergraduate/graduate course), or a combination thereof, may be taken provided that:
- The courses are approved by the student's supervisor or the graduate coordinator;
- The student has not received credit for similar courses in their Bachelor's program.
- The courses are approved by the student's supervisor or the graduate coordinator;
- The student has not received credit for similar courses in their Bachelor's program.
The requirements are set at the Department's discretion according to the student's background. The supervisor(s) and department must approve all programs of study.
2. Academic Project Option (3 terms)
The requirements for the course-based MEng program with the academic project option are 6 term-length graduate courses, ELEC 898 Academic Project (equivalent to 2 graduate courses), ELEC 891 seminar course, and APSC 801 Master of Engineering Foundations course. The student must attend department seminars to complete ELEC 891, the mandatory seminar series course.
- 2 courses must be graduate courses offered in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
- 4 remaining courses may be chosen from the courses listed by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, or another Queen's department, or from the Royal Military College.

3. Internship Option *is currently under review and will not be offered in 2021-2022
The requirements for the course-based MEng program with the Internship option are 7 term-length graduate courses, ELEC 895 Internship (equivalent to 1 graduate course), ELEC 891 seminar course, and APSC 801 Master of Engineering Foundations course. The student must attend department seminars to complete ELEC 891, the mandatory seminar series course.

Please Note
All course selections must be approved by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
For the course-based option, fees are applied on an 8 month period, not on a per course basis. If a student does not complete the program in the required 2 terms, fees will be charged on the Spring/Summer term (May or August) even though students are not registered in courses (not offered during this term). In other words, you pay tuition until you complete the program.
