Key Summary
In this crucial decade for energy transition, studying energy generation, transport and use is of paramount importance for global development, especially about environmental sustainability and exploitation of natural resources.

What will you learn?
The program covers both general learning areas and specific technical pathways. In Year 1 you will study scientific and technological subjects in the field of energy and nuclear engineering such as structural mechanics, energy economics, and a laboratory on energy and nuclear systems. You will be able to select from among three different specialist tracks:
- Renewable energy systems
- Design and management of power plants
- Sustainable nuclear energy
After the first year, you will delve into more detailed topics related to the specialized pathways. Each curriculum allows you to choose between a specialist track on energy/nuclear engineering, focused on thematic courses, and a more multidisciplinary track, aimed at acquiring more transversal skills.
The program ends with an internship, a thesis project, and some optional courses.
Your career as an Energy Engineer begins here. You will be able to find a job in public service companies working on energy management issues, in public and private organizations operating in the field of energy supply, in institutions of applied research and technology, in companies that produce and market machines and energy systems, in firms that design, install and test heating and air conditioning systems and heating systems.
Alternatively, you will be able to choose from a variety of career fields:
- Chief technician: for conservation and rational use of energy (energy manager) or to promote and develop projects to optimize and enhance territorial energy systems and resources;
- Energy production and transport: you will be an expert who can choose the right technologies available on the market for electrical and thermal energy production or a combination of the two;
- Power plants and components: you will be a designer who can draw up an energy project in both the civil and industrial sectors;
- Energy in civil and/or industrial organization: you will be a manager who can evaluate data on civil and industrial utility energy consumption, and – based on these evaluations – can indicate alternative supply solutions.
- Electro-nuclear plants: you will be an expert in fission and fusion who designs and analyses components and systems that are or will be used to produce electric power from nuclear sources.
- Production and management of nuclear fuel: you will be a professional who can plan the nuclear fuel cycle: type and material requirements, production methods, strategies of use within the reactor core, and fuel management after its removal from the core. For each of these phases, the engineer knows the normal operating conditions, the incidental risks, and the effect of radiation on materials.
- Design, production, and operation of equipment: you will be a specialist who designs, develops, and manages radiogenic devices for both medical and industrial applications.
- Energy planning: you will be a professional who can analyze the energy balance on any territorial scale (from local to national scale) and can plan the use and location of power plants based on the local energy demand.
How will you learn it?
The Master’s degree program is taught in both Italian and English.
You will be able to apply what you have learned through experimental activities with credits dedicated to measurements in the laboratory and with a curricular internship in a company or a research center.
You will take part in specific exercises, face-to-face lectures, classroom practicals, and laboratory exercises, working both independently or in groups.
You will be able to study abroad both to attend courses and to work on your thesis project with the possibility of earning a double degree from another European university.
