What will you learn?
The program curriculum is divided into three learning areas:
The first learning area (BasicEngineering): you will strengthen your knowledge of basic technical concepts that are required in the construction sector by studying the theory of structures, materials technology, geomatics, mathematical modeling as well as project management.
The second learning area (Civil Engineering): you will enhance your knowledge in subjects that are more specifically related to Civil Engineering and involve the design of structures and infrastructures. These include advanced structural mechanics (with a particular focus on concrete and steel structures), foundations as well as the design and construction of road infrastructures.
The third learning area refers to courses and subjects related to four specialist tracks that provide specific training in important areas of Civil Engineering.
Each track ends with a final project that accounts for a substantial amount of credits. The end product of such projects is a thesis and an oral presentation in front of a panel. Students can choose between design-type projects or work more oriented toward academic research.
Your career as a Civil Engineer starts here. You will be able to be employed by private or public companies, in Italy or abroad, or to work in the field of research and development with job opportunities in the following sectors:
- Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance, and Management of Civil Structures, Facilities, Infrastructure, and Service Networks;
- Planning, Design, Management, and Control of Transportation Systems;
- Design, Construction, and Maintenance of Water Structures and Infrastructures, Flood Defense Systems, and Industrial Hydraulic Plants;
- Survey and Monitoring;
- Geotechnics, Foundations, and Earthworks.
Alternatively, you will be able to work as a professional freelancer, provided that you pass the State Examination for Professional Practice (Esame di Stato) and register in the Professional Register of Engineers, section A.
How will you learn it?
The courses are taught in English.
You will take part in face-to-face lectures, Ateliers, classroom practicals, computer and experimental laboratories, as well as guided exercises, individual activities, and group work. In all these settings we put a lot of emphasis on active learning, whereby students are motivated to do things rather than learning only how to do them.
