Our picturesque campus with over 655 acres of natural environment and beautiful vistas provides the perfect background for a purposeful education. Johnstown and its surrounding communities offer many off-campus attractions for students; only 70 miles from Pittsburgh, and a few hours’ drive from the major metropolitan centers of Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, and Cleveland.

    To be considered for admission, applicants must submit:

    Upon receipt of your completed application for admission and required materials, your application is routed to an Admissions Counselor for initial review. Applicants will be notified of their decision via email and direct postal mail (US residents). In situations where a student is not offered a seat in a particular academic program, they may be offered admission to Pitt-Johnstown as an Undeclared student, or offered admission to another academic program. Regardless, all students enrolled at Pitt-Johnstown will receive the support and advising to meet their academic, personal, and career goals.

    Highly qualified applicants may be considered for early admission to select University of Pittsburgh graduate programs through our Guaranteed Admission Program.

    Test Optional Policy

    Freshman applicants may choose whether or not to submit SAT and/or ACT scores for admission. Pitt-Johnstown bases its admission decision on the whole student, with emphasis placed on the quality of work reflected in your high school transcript. Our goal is to predict a student's potential for success in their chosen academic program.

    The Office of International Services at Pitt-Johnstown is dedicated to offering exceptional support to international students before and during their stay at the university.

    Services provided include pre-departure orientation, visa status guidance and other immigration-related counselling, off-campus employment authorizations, and other related services.

    We provide free airport transportation to all new international students who arrive at the Johnstown Regional Airport.

    Pitt-Johnstown Financial Aid

    Scholarship eligibility for incoming first-year or new students to Pitt-Johnstown will be assessed by the Admissions Office upon acceptance.

    Process For Continuing Students

    Each year, the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s Financial Aid Office awards numerous Gift and Endowed (G&E) scholarships, made available to deserving students through the generosity of many individuals, clubs, organizations, industries, businesses, and foundations.

    The selection of scholarship recipients is based on specific criteria defined by the donor. A student’s academic performance and financial need may also be considered when deciding upon qualified candidates. Most G&E scholarships are geared toward continuing students; Pitt-Johnstown may require students to complete a scholarship application for consideration.

Completing the scholarship application does not guarantee selection, however, by completing the application, students are automatically considered for each scholarship that Pitt-Johnstown offers as well as several outside scholarships.     General Requirements

    For consideration, students must:

    • be enrolled for at least 6 credits in a degree-seeking program at Pitt-Johnstown.
    • have successfully completed 12 credits as a degree-seeking student at Pitt-Johnstown.
    • have earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 to be considered for need-based scholarships.
    • be registered for the upcoming fall term by May 15.
    • comply with Pitt-Johnstown's satisfactory academic progress standards for financial aid.
    • not be in default on an educational loan or not owe repayment on a federal grant.
    • not have earned a Bachelor’s Degree.

    Scholarship Exclusions/Adjustments

    Limited G&E funds are available to full scholarship recipients. Scholarship awards may be adjusted if Financial Aid determines a student is the recipient of a full tuition scholarship or tuition remission.
    Any student who receives a scholarship and/or grant awards that total more than Pitt-Johnstown’s annual cost of attendance, as defined by the Financial Aid Office, will have one or more awards reduced or canceled.
    The Financial Aid Office awards G&E scholarships based upon the information available at the time of the award, including intended major or cumulative GPA, as well as any other possible variables. In the event that this information is inaccurate or changes, the Financial Aid Office has the right to reduce, change, or cancel the award.

      The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking is an annual set of rankings of American colleges and universities published by U.S. News & World Report beginning in 1983.       Brookings: Pitt-Johnstown Tops in Area for ‘Value-Added’ Earning Potential

      The Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program ranked the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown as the top four-year university in the region for the institution’s impact on actual, mid-career earnings of graduates (“value-added”).

      Pitt-Johnstown: 90 Years Old and Better Than Ever

      The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown launched on May 12, 1927. In addition to marking its 90th year in 2017, Pitt-Johnstown also celebrated the 50th year of the campus in its Richland Township location, and the 10th year that Dr. Jem Spectar has served as university president. Pitt-Johnstown marked the founding with numerous campus and community events

      Pitt-Johnstown Book Center

      The Pitt-Johnstown Book Center is your source for textbook purchases and rentals, educational supplies, and university merchandise. Located in the ground floor of the Student Union, the bookstore also offers Mountain Cat apparel, accessories, and souvenirs.

      Owen Library

      Owen Library provides access to a vast array of databases, which include journal articles, ebooks, images, streaming video and statistical data. The library holds more than 230,000 items and provides access to about 7 million volumes in the University Library System.
