Introduction
The licensed practical nurse (LPN) has a variety of duties. Working under the direction of registered nurses, nurse practitioners and doctors, the LPN provides direct hands-on patient care including:
monitoring patients’ health, measuring blood pressure and other vitals
administering basic patient care, including changing bandages and inserting catheters
providing for the basic comfort of patients, such as helping them with daily activities
discussing the patients’ care and documenting patient concerns
charting patient care services including patients’ health concerns and communicate information to interdisciplinary health team physicians
