About Political Science

Political Science is the study of government, politics, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. It uses both humanistic and scientific perspectives and skills to examine the United States and other countries of the world. Political Science majors acquire skills in communications, writing, and critical thinking that are crucial to a liberal arts education. This prepares students to think independently, with tolerance for others and concern for current affairs.

Because of its breadth and diversity, this program prepares you for a wide variety of career paths. Political Science majors may pursue careers in private and public sector organizations, including careers in business, the law, state, the local and federal government, journalism, international organizations and finance, political campaigns, interest groups and associations, and teaching.

Political Science education also provides valuable preparation for participating in community organizations, electoral politics, movements on behalf of specific policies, or even seeking elected or appointed positions in government.
