The program in Behavioral Neuroscience offers students a thorough understanding of how the brain influences behavior. It combines courses in biology, psychology, and neuroscience to explore how the nervous system works and its role in mental processes and actions. Throughout the program, students learn about brain functions, neuroanatomy, and how various factors like genetics and environment affect behavior. The curriculum emphasizes both scientific inquiry and practical skills, preparing students to analyze neural mechanisms and their impact on behavior patterns.
Students also gain hands-on research experience, which is key to understanding real-world applications of the theoretical concepts learned. The program supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for careers in research, healthcare, or further education. It encourages students to stay current with advances in neuroscience and helps them build a foundation for future specialization. The program aims to prepare graduates to understand complex brain-behavior relationships and contribute meaningfully to fields like mental health, neurological disorders, and cognitive science.
Coursework includes foundational topics in biology, psychology, chemistry, and, for pre-med students, physics, followed by highly specialized coursework in neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and behavioral neuroscience.
Students are required to take at least two semesters of independent research with award-winning faculty or at some of the country’s best institutions located at our doorstep in New York City.
