The Art History program offers students a chance to explore visual culture through a comprehensive curriculum. It covers a wide range of periods, styles, and cultures, helping students develop critical skills in analyzing and interpreting artworks. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical experience, encouraging students to engage with artworks directly and understand their historical contexts. Students can choose from various electives and specializations, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific interests within art history.
Throughout the program, students gain knowledge about different artistic movements, influential artists, and cultural developments over time. The curriculum combines lectures, research projects, and internships, providing a well-rounded education in art history. This approach aims to prepare students for careers in museums, galleries, education, or further academic studies. The program also encourages students to think critically and communicate effectively, equipping them with skills valued across many fields related to art and culture.
The Art History BA offers courses in the major periods of Western Art History, as well as Latin American Art History, African Art History, and Asian Art History. Making maximum use of the city's resources, classes regularly visit museums and galleries where works of art are examined and experienced firsthand.
