Key Summary
Oklahoma State University's Petroleum Engineering program is geographically well positioned in one of the most active exploration areas in the country. The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology has strong support from local and national oil and gas operators and service companies giving our students the expertise they need to be successful in their careers. OSU's petroleum engineers will be hands-on with understanding of formation rock, applied mechanics, materials, fluid behavior and application of their effects on reservoir, drilling and completion economics and environmental sustainability. Students will develop a team-oriented problem-solving attitude that is required in industry.
Almost all doctoral students are supported by a graduate teaching or research assistantships which come with a tuition waiver and a minimum stipend of $2,300 per month. Many Masters students also receive graduate teaching or research assistantships. Students are responsible for university and college fees. If a non-resident student enrolls in 20 credit hours in a year, they will be responsible for approximately $6,800 in fees. Additional scholarships are also available in the college and individual schools.
There are two paths available to satisfy the requirements for the PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Path 1
For students entering the program with a BS in engineering and requires a total of 68 hours (36 hours of course work and 32 hours of research thesis).
Path 2
For students entering the program with an MS in petroleum engineering from OSU and requires a total of 38 hours (6 hours in the core courses and 26 hours of research thesis).
