Key Summary
If you’re interested in exploring interior design on a deeper level and aspire to become a leader in the field, the Post-Professional MFA might be for you.
The Post-Professional Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design (MFA2) is a two-year, terminal degree program that provides professionals in interior design, architecture, environmental design, and closely related fields with the opportunity for advanced creative and academic scholarship in interior design. This full-time program is our most conceptual and is open to those who have a professional degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
There are four components to the program: a core design studio sequence, specialty studios, lectures/ seminars, and electives. Students experience a diverse array of interdisciplinary design approaches and project types. The thesis, required as a culminating project, consists of directed research followed by a studio project. Each student must demonstrate originality, research and design skills, and creative capacity to resolve advanced problems in design. The thesis is presented to a graduate faculty jury for evaluation.
Students graduate with a deep understanding of the nature of design of the built environment, the ability to articulate and resolve advanced problems in design, and are prepared to become leaders of the profession.
- This program requires full-time study
- Applicants must have a professional degree in interior design, architecture, engineering, or a closely related field
- Advanced portfolio required for admission
NYSID Faculty
New York School of Interior Design is a great learning institution because of its faculty. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and bring practical and theoretical experience from their professional lives.
We have more than 100 faculty members who are practicing designers at many of the top design firms in the country: Gensler, HOK, Perkins+Will, Rockwell Group, and Robert A.M. Stern Architects to name a few. Many are also principals of their own firms--for instance Kati Curtis of Kati Curtis Design, Stefan Steil of Steilish Interiors & Architecture, and Warren Ashworth of his self-titled architecture firm.

Electives
Students may choose electives from both undergraduate or graduate course offerings with the approval of their advisor. No core BFA studios may be used as electives.
For many students and their families, the costs associated with college are a great matter of concern. That is why we make an effort to make NYSID education more affordable. The Office of Financial Aid is here to help guide you through the process.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are matriculated and in good academic standing are eligible to apply for Financial Assistance by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. There are financial aid programs for both full-time and part-time study, as well as a number of scholarship resources. International students are eligible to apply for institutional scholarships.
How to apply
All applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our school code is 013606.
This single application will be reviewed with regard to a student’s eligibility for Federal grants, loans, and work-study programs. If you are a New York State resident, when you submit the FAFSA you will automatically be prompted to complete the TAP grant application.
All students who apply for financial aid will be notified of their eligibility via regular mail and email. Students may log in to their NYSID Portal to view updates to their financial aid status.
Scholarship Programs
Incoming and returning students are eligible to be considered for institutional aid in the form of scholarships or grants. An application must be submitted each academic year for consideration. To be considered, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and/or meet the specific criteria defined by the scholarship and have no violations of the NYSID Student Code of Conduct.
It is expected that awarded students are enrolled full-time (12 or more credits) unless otherwise noted in the award descriptions.
Scholarships awards are determined by a committee appointed by the NYSID President.
