Micro and nanotechnology engineers are at the forefront of research and development related to a vast array of technologies that take advantage of the unique properties of materials and systems at the nanoscale, ranging from new nanomaterials and nanodevices that can be applied in a simple smartphone or in complex cancer treatment. LEMN aims at scientific-technological training in the area of Micro and Nanotechnology with an emphasis on the study of the structure, properties, production, characterization and application of materials and processes in the areas of microelectronics and nanotechnology.
It is intended that the Graduate in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering:
- Know and know how to use, in the appropriate context, the language and concepts of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Informatics necessary for the acquisition of technical skills.
- Know and understand the structural, physical and chemical properties of different classes of materials with a view to applications in the areas of electronics, microelectronics and nanotechnology.
- Know, understand and know how to use materials and devices characterization techniques with particular emphasis on micro and nanoscale characterization techniques.
- Get to know and understand the process technologies of Microelectronics and the production of Nanomaterials.
- Know how to communicate effectively in an academic and professional environment.
- Know the organizational structure of companies.
The training given in this degree allows the continuation of studies; mobility between courses taught at NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA and other Schools and employability in services and technical functions that do not require specific 2nd cycle skills.
Although technical skills are important, in the current context, and even in terms of employability, complementary skills (soft-skills) assume a preponderant role in this training. LEMN, like all FCT NOVA courses, follows a new pedagogical approach called the “FCT Curriculum Profile”. Essentially, the “FCT Curriculum Profile” reinforces the technical-scientific training provided with complementary skills that provide students with the tools that will influence their school performance and, in the future, their professional performance as a graduate.
The Degree in Micro and Nanotechnology, in addition to conferring a degree in engineering, provides solid scientific and technical training aimed at pursuing more advanced studies in various areas of Science and Engineering, with emphasis on the Master in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering .
Training in this area was launched by NOVA School of Science and Technology |FCT NOVA, in 2007. Since then, the demand for Micro and Nanotechnology Engineers has increased significantly, as a result of highly technological training that provides graduates with an easy integration in the business market.
