Introduction
Health and the environment are closely linked. It is now more important than ever for health professionals, including students and decision-makers around the world, to take a proactive role in promoting a sustainable environment for healthcare services. By doing so, they will help to reduce the negative impact of healthcare practices on our planet.
This International course in Health and the Environment is an initiative of the Portuguese Council for Health and Environment in partnership with the NOVA National School of Public Health.
Through this course, we hope to raise awareness of the impact of environmental determinants on public health. Our goal is to minimize the negative impact of healthcare on the environment through effective adaptation measures, as well as strengthen health systems to make them more capable of handling environmental challenges. By doing so, we can reduce and prevent the impact of environmental determinants on public health.
The course will take place online from April 2nd to June 18th, 2024, with an evaluation on June 25th.
The course will be taught in English with the possibility of subtitles in Spanish and Portuguese in the recordings.
The application period is currently closed, but stay tuned for more information about the upcoming iteration of the course!

Ideal Students
Health professionals must fight climate change and protect the future of our children. We must reduce emissions, collaborate with other organizations, promote sustainable practices, raise awareness, and advocate for a smaller ecological footprint. We must also build resilience against unexpected events and the current epidemiological transition. The International Course in Health and the Environment will introduce and discuss these themes to raise awareness of the interconnection of health and the environment.
The course is designed for health professionals and students, including doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, dentists, psychologists, nutritionists, health technicians, nurses, and managers.
