Why pursue a German Studies degree from North Central College?

As a German Studies major, you have the opportunity to pursue your interest in the study of the cultures of German-speaking countries, such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, while maintaining a high level of proficiency in the language. The study of German cultures has a number of obvious connections to other disciplines. You will choose from courses in arts, communications, English, history, philosophy, political science, and religion- additional courses can be requested to meet any of your interests.

You can also:

  • Travel to Austria or Germany as part of the study abroad or spend your May Term in Berlin or Erfurt
  • Participate in language roundtables to boost your language skills
  • Qualify for induction into Delta Phi Alpha, the German honor society, or Phi Sigma Iota, open to students who study more than one language
  • Conduct independent research with your professor or apply for a Richter Grant enabling research travel
  • Participate in the College Scholar Honors Program
  • Earn an English language learning (ELL) minor if you plan to teach abroad after college or be an ESL teacher in Illinois
