The program consists of basic courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering foundations, Introduction to petroleum engineering, Fluid mechanics, and Thermodynamics which are delivered within the first two years. During the third and fourth year, students take different petroleum engineering disciplines such as Reservoir engineering, Reservoir simulation, Production, Drilling, etc. These topics enhance the knowledge of students to solve problems in oil and gas production, field development strategies, drilling/production design, and economic analysis.
Possible career destinations:
- Petroleum Industry – Oil companies hire geologists for sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, geophysics, basin modeling, geochemistry, reservoir diagenesis, etc.
- Mining industry – Exploration and mining geologists, working for the mining industry must have competencies in economic geology, mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, etc.
- Environmental companies and water resource agencies – These companies and agencies mostly seek hydrogeologists and geochemists.
- Academics – Carry out scientific research in a university or a research center.
