Key Summary

About : The Master's Program in Biodiversity focuses on the complexities of biological diversity, emphasizing conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems. The program spans two years and covers topics including ecological processes, species interactions, and biodiversity management. Students will engage in research projects and field studies, fostering practical skills in biodiversity assessment and conservation strategies.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue careers in various fields such as wildlife conservation, environmental policy, and research. Potential job titles may include ecologist, environmental consultant, and biodiversity officer. Opportunities exist in governmental agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions, allowing graduates to contribute to preserving biodiversity and enhancing sustainable practices.

Master's Program in Biodiversity (MPB) is cross-disciplinary in nature and aims to cultivate talent with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in biodiversity conservation and management as well as awareness of international biodiversity governance. The program emphasizes biodiversity theories as a foundation before moving onto more in-depth discussions on the scientific knowledge of biodiversity, sustainable resource utilization and planning, and benefit estimation and sharing. Therefore, the curriculum covers the methodology and technology required for conducting research. It revolves around two main themes:

  • Biodiversity Science
  • Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainability

Furthermore, with practical training based on local biodiversity issues and mini courses taught by international scholars, students can not only develop the problem-solving skills necessary for biodiversity management in Taiwan but also widen their horizons by interacting with researchers from around the world, acquiring a multi-scale aptitude for managing both regional and international biodiversity affairs.

In brief, the program integrates the perspectives of humanities, social sciences, and environmental sustainability into the study of biodiversity conservation to produce graduates who meet the current qualifications for global biodiversity conservation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), who have a robust understanding of biodiversity theories, the ability to plan for biodiversity sustainability and manage biodiversity benefit estimation and sharing, and practical skills for interdisciplinary integration.

Program Features

NTU has been collaborating with several government departments and NGOs in research and practical works on biodiversity and conservation, and also holds annual field courses with Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand. Therefore, students of this program have opportunities to interact with different scholars and participate in fieldwork experience and enterprise internships in biodiversity conservation projects to experience a large amount of biodiversity in Taiwan.
