Program Summary

The Master of Science in Nutrition (MSN) program is a student-focused program that helps to strengthen research skills, expand knowledge of advanced nutrition topics, bolster communication skills and sets a student up to be a leader in the field of nutrition and dietetics. The Master of Science in Nutrition program offers a Dietetics Concentration, in which students can prepare themselves for a career path as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The mission of the MSN program is to prepare diverse students to become nutrition leaders who practice effectively and contribute solutions for human health and healthcare challenges.

What can I do with this degree?

Students who complete the Dietetics Concentration will meet the requirements for a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification statement, which is the first initial step to become an RDN. Already credentialed RDNs can advance their knowledge via the General Nutrition Concentration. The General Nutrition Concentration can also be pursued by students who are looking for advanced nutrition related knowledge, looking to become researchers, food scientist, nutrition educators, etc.

How long is it going to take?

A full-time student may finish the MSN program in as little as 12 months, including summer and winter semesters.

What prior knowledge/training is required?

Prior to entry into the program, students need to complete a couple of science-based prerequisite courses, including chemistry, biological chemistry, organic chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, advanced nutrition and medical nutrition therapy.

How is the program delivered?

The MSN program offers some courses synchronously online and on some courses in-person. Courses are offered on weekday evenings.
