Introduction
The HND Art and Design (Art Practice) is a Fine Art course run over two years. This is a nationally recognized course equivalent to the 1st year of an art school undergraduate degree (level 4). The second-year (level 5) is the equivalent to the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree. The course is designed to help you discover and develop your individual abilities and strengths. Throughout the course, you will be required to learn and demonstrate technical skills and critical judgment, which will inform your work. You will be supported in the process of developing and maturing your ideas and concepts, being able to present them in both written and verbal form. The course also aims to increase your professional attitude to your art practice, which you will need to demonstrate in the mid-year and end-of-year exhibitions. Also, considerable time is spent helping you with your portfolio selection and interview practice if you apply for a degree or MA study. We hope the HND will give you the confidence to progress with your ideas, provide encouragement and support to build a new body of work, and exhibit as professional artists. We offer you the opportunity to specialize further and refine your professional practice in a supportive and stimulating environment.
