Introduction

The Online Master of Public Health (OMPH) is designed to meet the educational needs of working professionals interested in seeking a new career or advancing in health services careers through its concentration in Executive Health Management. Offered completely online, the OMPH is geared towards professionals coming from diverse careers in an array of health-related organizations from myriad professional backgrounds including medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, pharmacy, laboratory sciences, insurance, environmental health, health education, health-related consulting, law, management, health services administration, psychology, and social work. The program recognizes and builds upon the extensive and diverse experiences of its students to promote an online community of learning. It is geared towards those who have also have an interest in social justice, health equity, and who apply a broad "social determinants" perspective of health.

Length of Program

The Online MPH requires the completion of 42 credit hours: 35 hours of coursework and 7 credit hours to complete a graduate capstone project. The accelerated curriculum plan takes less than 18 months to complete with three full semesters and one summer semester. Each fall/spring semester consists of courses offered in two consecutive eight-week terms; the summer semester is one eight-week session.

Public Health Program Admissions Information

Admissions Requirements

The Public Health Program admits students only in the fall semester. All applicants must first meet the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies before consideration to any graduate degree program at Morgan State University, including both the MPH and DrPH degree program.

The Admissions Process for the Public Health Program

  • Complete the online graduate admissions application including a personal statement of academic and professional plans, a current resume or curriculum vitae and the reasons for selecting Morgan State University.
  • Arrange for official copies of all transcripts from all graduate and undergraduate institutions attended to be sent from the registrars of those institutions directly to the School of Graduate Studies.
  • Have three letters of recommendation sent to the School of Graduate Studies from officials or faculty members of institutions previously attended who are acquainted with the applicant's ability for graduate study or from employment supervisors where applicable.
  • Arrange for official test scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to be sent from the testing agency to the School of Graduate Studies. Test scores may not be more than 5 years old prior to the date of application. (The GRE is not required for admission to the Online MPH program)
  • Agree to requests from the Graduate Coordinator to be interviewed.

The application for admission to graduate study will not be processed until all credentials are on file.
