Key Summary

About : The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program covers essential topics in computer science, including programming, algorithms, and software development. The curriculum integrates theory and practical experience to equip students with problem-solving skills. Students will engage in hands-on projects that provide real-world applications of their knowledge and help them build a robust portfolio.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue careers in various fields, such as software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and systems architecture. They may also find opportunities in research, technical support, or web development, benefiting from the diverse skills gained throughout the program.

Introduction

We want to break away from the traditional definition of computer science. It doesn’t matter if a topic “belongs” to computer science, information technology, software engineering, or information systems—real-world problems do not fit nicely into these boxes. The Computer Science program will teach you to combine technological know-how, problem domain knowledge, teamwork, and communication skills to solve complex real-world problems.

Academic Opportunities

Merck & Company Partnership
The next generation of health IT professionals needs an important combination of technical skills and an understanding of how to use health data appropriately. This unique partnership between Merck & Company and Moravian University gives students an opportunity to develop these abilities while they make contributions to Merck initiatives. Merck employees and Moravian University students have made significant contributions to open-source projects through senior capstones, summer SOAR projects, internships, and co-ops.

3D Printing Team
The Moravian University 3D Printing Team maintains the fleet of 3D printers for the campus and creates custom devices for groups and individuals across campus, from chemistry to nursing, from rehabilitation sciences to maintenance. We also work with the community, including St. Luke’s Hospital during the pandemic and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network to create assistive devices.

Research
Computer science majors are strongly encouraged to undertake an Honors Project and/or a SOAR Research Project. These research projects are often combined with the student’s major or minor.

Study Abroad
Sophomore year is the perfect time for an optional short-term study abroad opportunity, or, as Moravian likes to call it, a “Global Greyhound Trip.” The Elevate experience includes a trip to one of our featured destinations, like the Czech Republic or Costa Rica, at no extra cost to students!
