About: The Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering combines civil engineering with ecology, chemistry, and microbiology to address sanitation, hygiene, public health, environmental protection, and conservation. The programme aims to prepare graduates to practice as environmental and sanitary engineers and promote professionalism. Programme educational objectives expect graduates within five years to solve complex engineering problems, undertake projects considering safety, health, environmental codes and laws, pursue professional growth and lifelong learning, and initiate improvements in engineering practice.
Career Outcomes: Graduates work as environmental and sanitary engineers, water and wastewater engineers, environmental consultants, public health engineers, or pursue graduate study.
The Environmental and Sanitary Engineering program combines the discipline of civil engineering and the principles of ecology, chemistry, and microbiology covering the applications of engineering to promote hygiene, sanitation, and public health, and to protect and conserve the environment.
The program’s thrust is to create and maintain an educational environment that shall enable graduates to practice as successful environmental and sanitary engineers for the advancement of society and to promote professionalism in engineering practice.
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Within the five years after graduation, the graduates of the Environmental and Sanitary Engineering program shall have:
i. Undertaken, singly or in teams, projects that show the ability to solve complex engineering problems
ii. Had substantial involvement in projects that take into consideration safety, health, environmental concerns, and public welfare, partly through adherence to required codes and laws.
iii. Demonstrated professional success via promotions and/or positions of increasing responsibility
iv. Demonstrated life-long learning via progress toward completion of an advanced degree, professional development/continuing education courses, or industrial training courses
v. Exhibited professional behavior and attitude in engineering practice
vi. Initiated and implemented actions toward the improvement of engineering practice
