About: The International Foundation Programme is designed to prepare international students for success in their higher education journey. Introduction

The Middlesex University Dubai International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a 120-credit programme which aims to provide students with the required skills for entry into one of our undergraduate programmes. In addition, it helps students to transition from high school to university by teaching the use of academic conventions, fostering a learner-centred environment and encouraging independent learning whereby students become actively involved in their own education. Students will also develop transferable skills in their chosen subject area along with communication and problem-solving skills.

Upon successful completion of the International Foundation Programme, students may progress directly onto any one of MDX Dubai’s undergraduate programmes. Graduates of the IFP programme have gone on to become some of the most successful students.

Why Study the International Foundation Programme?

The programme is aimed at students with intermediate to advanced levels of English, who have completed secondary school with good grades but would like to improve their study skills to meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate programme at the University.

During the course, students will be introduced to a range of subjects taught on our undergraduate programmes, as well as being offered individual support in choosing and applying for the degree they wish to study. It also enables students to settle into student life at Middlesex University Dubai.

All classes are held in person on campus, at the Dubai Knowledge Park campus in the heart of the city.

Curriculum

Programme Content

Students will undertake core modules as well as subject-specific modules which will provide a solid foundation for undergraduate study after completion of the programme.

Each module is worth 30 credits.

Teaching

Taught sessions are held at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus during the week (Sunday to Thursday) from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Additional sessions might be scheduled over weekends or holiday periods and you can expect to receive plenty of notice for these. Attending scheduled weekly classes is an important requirement for completion of this programme.

Students will be actively involved in a range of learning, teaching and assessment approach as part of the programmeme. Such participative approaches aim to put students at the centre of their own learning so that they are engaged and involved in all aspects of assessment and learning. The programmeme requires deep involvement in learning activities and collaboration with fellow students including working and learning as part of small groups. Learning activities may also occur both within and outside the classroom. Workshops are used to enhance a range of skills and focus on specific areas of expertise.

Students learning will also be supported by technology, and the student will increasingly use existing and emerging technologies to engage students. The programmeme may be facilitated using a variety of media and online tools (My Learning on UniHub, podcasts, wikis, etc.). By engaging with e-learning students will also be developing skills that are not only essential for learning but also highly valued by employers. These include but are not limited to: working flexibly, communication, understanding of IT, team working and creating shared understandings based on quality resources and access to global expertise.
