Key Summary
The Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics aims to produce graduates that meet the requirement of the emerging and increasingly critical cybersecurity industry. This programme will provide students with a significant range of knowledge skills that are highly valued and sought-after by the international security and digital forensics sector. The degree will provide a thorough grounding in the area of modern computing including database design, computer networking, programming, operating systems, regulations, security, digital investigation, file systems, digital evidence management, memory analysis and network protocols. Students will be trained on how to protect and prevent cybercrimes from occurring in organisations and be compliant with regulations governing Cyber Security. They will be able to detect, react appropriately and advise on cybercrimes that have occurred in organisations and be compliant with regulations governing Digital Forensics.
Graduates of this programme will be well prepared for a range of careers in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics as well as a postgraduate study either in “Cyber Security and Penetration Testing”, or “e-Security and Digital Forensics.
Why Study BSc Honours Cyber Security and Digital Forensics?
This programme will prepare students to deal with the legal implications of investigations and be able to collect, analyse and report on and present findings on digital artefacts seized. Students will be prepared to investigate unauthorised access or data breaches in an organisation.
Students will focus on learning the application of dedicated hardware and software safely and effectively in all stages of cyber security and digital forensic lifecycles. The programme also introduces students to the design and development of experimental frameworks to test hypotheses impartially and summarise efficaciously on the results.
The special features of the programme are:
- Practical hands-on work in our new MDX CERT (Cyber Environments Research and Testing) Lab which has been built and equipped to facilitate the teaching of BSc Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.
- Practical competencies in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.
- Students have an edge as the University works with companies such as Dell, IBM, Red Hat, Epson, Oracle and SAS in addition to being Cisco Net Academy – meaning the student will have access to the latest equipment and can make use of specialist teaching materials and workshops.
- Programme content is enriched by providing industry engagement opportunities to students through industry speakers and field trips.
- Enrolment into the CISCO academy and the opportunity to complete the CCNA course.
- Develop project management skills and the opportunity to implement these skills in the final year project.

Core modules such as programming, networks, and IT security are covered in this course extensively. Students will develop expert knowledge in the technological, ethical, regulatory and legal issues in this field, including security, encryption, operating systems and information systems. Students will learn how to deal with the legal implications of investigations and be able to collect, analyse and report on and present findings on digital artefacts seized. Students will be prepared to investigate unauthorised access or data breaches in an organisation.
The programme will engage students in the process of learning through practice-based individual as well as group activities and projects, enabling them to develop their team-working and communication skills which are required in the industry.

Teaching
Classes are held at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm (Please note: there will be No Classes scheduled on Fridays between 12.00 pm to 2.00 pm). Additional sessions may be scheduled over the weekend or during holiday periods and you should expect to receive notice of these in advance.
You will be actively involved in a range of learning, teaching and assessment approach as part of your programme. These approaches ensure that you are involved and engaged by placing you at the centre of your own learning. You will be required to actively participate in learning activities and engagement with your fellow students, both individually and collaboratively. Faculty increasingly use existing and emerging technologies and your programme will be facilitated using a variety of media and online tools (My Learning on UniHub, podcasts, wikis, etc.) which will allow you access to a diverse range of online resources and learning materials. By engaging in e-learning you will also be developing skills which are essential for your learning and highly valued by employers. Such skills include flexibility, communication, IT skills and teamwork.
The degree prepares you for a wide range of careers. Graduates will have excellent career prospects and the range of potential employers will be vast across the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Careers include key roles such as Digital Forensic Examiner, Cyber Security Researcher, Digital Forensic Investigator, Compliance Manager, Cyber Forensics Coordinator / e-Discovery Administrator. Links with the employment market are established through visiting speakers from relevant sections of the industry. Our industry partners offer internships, deliver visiting lectures, assist with field trips and recruit at the University’s Careers Day each year.
Graduates may continue studying towards a Master's or PhD, where this cyber security and digital forensics degree will provide a strong foundation.
