Introduction
Analytics is one of the fastest-growing fields globally, with the market projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of over 12% until 2027. At Menlo College, we recognize the need for new skill sets to prepare our students better to work in all industries. Today, it is increasingly important to understand data-driven decision-making by firms and consumers. The demand for those with the understanding of, skills to manage, extract insights, and tell stories using large datasets will likely realize many opportunities. Companies will need individuals with knowledge of data collection methods and analytical techniques to identify insights valuable to the organizationโs goals and customer satisfaction.
The programโs mission is to be responsive to serving our students with relevant and practical learning experiences essential in an ever-changing and complex economy. The vision of the Business Analytics concentration is to offer a relevant curriculum, which will help companies grappling with the new reality, at this point-in-time, analyzing big data.
Students in Business Analytics complete the core curriculum in business (39 units) that is taken by all business students. Menlo Collegeโs program in Business Analytics consists of a total of 6 courses and 18 units, which culminates in an internship. The program entails some of the following topics: introduction to big data analytics, data programming with web scraping, introduction to network analysis, data visualization, predictive modeling with big data, sports analytics, marketing analytics, and storytelling with data. The program can be completed in four years of study.
Students who should enroll are those interested in extracting insights and storytelling using structured and unstructured business analytics tools, as well as those who will work in any industry and interested in a career assisting their company analyzing large amounts of various types of data (e.g., quantitative or qualitative) in various arenas, including but not limited to healthcare, human resources/services, distribution systems, pricing, social media, etc.
