- Clinicians: physicians (including fellows and residents), advanced practice providers (NP, PA, CNM, CNS), pharmacists, registered nurses, registered dietitians, clinical social workers, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES), dentists, dental assistants, podiatrists, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, and other licensed professionals who care for people with or at risk for diabetes.
- Paraprofessionals: lay health workers, community health workers, peer counselors, health navigators, coaches, assistive school personnel, dental hygienists, certified nursing assistants, medical assistants, dietetic technicians, registered pharmacy technicians, physical therapy assistants, and licensed vocational nurses.
Abbott Fund Scholars Opportunity: Applicants who are currently employed or seeking employment in health care, a community-based organization, education, or an organization providing services to Stockton or San Joaquin County residents living with diabetes may be eligible for a scholarship. Applicants whose organizations provide services to priority neighborhoods in Stockton or San Joaquin County are highly encouraged to apply. The scholarship will cover 100% of tuition for the student's certificate or individual courses.
Commercial support from the Abbott Fund is used for the purpose of providing scholarships.
- Clinicians: completion provides continuing medical education credits and a specialty certificate that can enhance a clinician's resume and support licensure renewal; useful for clinicians aiming to work in diabetes programs or to showcase competency in diabetes care.
- Paraprofessionals: applicable to roles in ambulatory care and clinics, community health, inpatient settings, care homes, schools, insurance plan providers, and rehab centers; completion awards a Certificate of Completion from University of the Pacific that can support a resume.
- Diabetes Essentials for Clinicians: five sub-courses (each worth 2 units or 20 CMEs) totaling 100 hours: Foundations for Diabetes Care; Inclusive Care & Special Populations; Pharmacotherapy; Diabetes Technology; Diabetes Education and Wellness. Students may complete portions for partial credits without achieving the certificate.
- Diabetes Fundamentals Specialty Certificates: specialty tracks tailored for specific professions (Medical Providers, Nursing, Pharmacist, Dietitian, Social Worker) with content aligned to each profession and associated continuing education credits.
- Diabetes Essentials for Paraprofessionals: three courses (UDBM 110 - Introduction to Diabetes Basics; UDBM 120 - Facilitating Self-Care Behaviors; UDBM 130 - Cultural Competency in Diabetes Care). Course length: 30 hours total; self-paced.
