Key Summary

About : The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics provides students with a solid foundation in mathematical theory and its practical applications. Students will engage in courses that explore statistical analysis, numerical methods, and mathematical modeling. This program prepares graduates for varied challenges in industries such as finance, engineering, and technology.
Career Outcomes : Graduates with a BS in Applied Mathematics can pursue careers such as data analyst, financial analyst, operations researcher, or mathematical modeler. They may also find opportunities in academia or further their education in graduate studies in mathematics or related fields.

Applied mathematics explores the connections between mathematics and the physical world and uses mathematics in studying and solving real-world problems. In this interdisciplinary major, students learn the techniques of modeling, analysis, computing, simulation, and data manipulation as applied to their area of interest, such as engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, or economics. Students can pursue a BS with a major in applied mathematics in three different ways, either at the university (Option A with a minor or Option C Statistics Emphasis) or through the MBU-UVA cooperative program in Engineering (Option B).
