Key Summary

About : The MA in Islam and Sustainable Development focuses on integrating Islamic principles with modern sustainable practices. The program encourages critical analysis of sustainability in various contexts. You'll explore topics like social justice, environmental stewardship, and economic empowerment through an Islamic lens. This course is designed for those seeking to make a positive impact in society, emphasizing the role of faith in global challenges.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue careers in environmental policy, community development, non-profit organizations, and international relations. They may also find opportunities in academia, research, and consultancy, where they can utilize their understanding of sustainable practices within the framework of Islamic values.

This unique programme responds to the emerging sustainable development agenda, which has become a key policy determinant in many societies. Contemporary debates and frameworks for sustainable development programmes have devoted insufficient attention to the role of ethics, values and social justice in ensuring sustainable outcomes for all stakeholders. The position of religion in general, and Islam in particular has not received due consideration.

The programme critically explores a range of perspectives and debates surrounding Islam and sustainable development in the contemporary global environment and professional context. It provides students with a critical understanding of sustainable development theory and practice, and the skills required to critically analyse and evaluate sustainable development research, policy and practice, targeting Muslim communities in a range of contexts.

The Course is offered on both a full-time (12 months, over three semesters) and part-time (24 months, over six semesters) basis.
