Introduction
The Science program at Marianopolis is a two-year, pre-university program that offers two options: Health Science and Pure and Applied Science. Each leads to a Diplôme d’études collégiales or DEC. Both are different from the Science you know from high school: you get more in-depth information with your courses and more hands-on experience, more lab time, and more opportunities to explore your interests.
A DEC in Health Science at Marianopolis is the best pathway to a university health-related program, such as dentistry, nutrition, medicine, and microbiology. A DEC in Pure and Applied Science is the best pathway to a university program in engineering, Computer Science, or in the pure sciences of chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
Whether you choose Health or Pure and Applied, as a Science student, you will have many university choices and later in the workplace.
As a Marianopolis Pure and Applied student, you can take enriched courses, choose from a wide variety of electives, from Digital Electronics to Differential Equations to Technical Drawing, and use sophisticated machinery such as the College’s more than a dozen telescopes. And if Computer Science is your thing, you can take up to five courses during your four semesters at Marianopolis!
If you decide that Health Science is more to your liking, it is very easy to switch.
Health Science at Marianopolis gives you the immense advantage of having like-minded peers, expert professors, and many opportunities to round out your education in and out of the classroom.
Use a state-of the art Amersham Imager that allows you to visualize DNA, RNA, and proteins using fluorescent, chemiluminescent and colorimetric methods in the biology lab. Generate infrared spectra of various samples with a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer in the chemistry lab. Take enriched courses, attend seminars, choose from a wide selection of electives, from Molecular Genetics to Human Physiology. And if you are not yet sure which stream is right for you, switching to Pure and Applied is easy.
