If you want to enter the game industry as a 3D modeller or 3D artist, this program is for you. Instead of spending 2 to 3 years in a traditional course, MAGES gives you a focused 1 year pathway to build an impressive, industry ready portfolio.
You will learn directly from industry professionals, including Kingston Chan (former Senior Art Director at FZD), and master the complete 3D workflow used in studios. By creating high quality characters, props, and environments, you will graduate with the skills and portfolio needed to enter the industry with confidence.
The Diploma in 3D Modelling and Game Art at MAGES Institute of Excellence is designed for students who want to enter the game industry as 3D modellers, environment artists, character artists, or game asset creators. This is a focused, production driven program that trains learners in the complete 3D pipeline used in professional studios.
All training is delivered by active industry professionals, including Kingston Chan, former Senior Art Director at FZD School of Design, whose structured teaching approach and production experience help students develop strong artistic fundamentals and polished execution. With guidance from mentors working in game studios today, learners gain practical insights into modelling workflows, sculpting techniques, topology, texturing, UV mapping, materials, lighting, 3D printing and game asset optimisation.
Students train in a studio style environment that reflects an actual 3D production setup. Each learner works at a dedicated workstation throughout the year, with extended access to digital labs, sculpting tools, and collaborative work areas. With class sizes capped at 18, every student receives personalised feedback, clear project milestones, and close guidance through every portfolio piece.
Unlike traditional programs that take 2 to 3 years, this diploma condenses essential industry requirements into an intensive twelve month journey. The focus is simple, master core skills, build high quality assets, and create a strong, job ready portfolio. Students who remain consistent and disciplined throughout the year graduate with completed works such as characters, props, environments, and game ready models that meet industry expectations.
This program is ideal for learners who want to break into 3D game art quickly and effectively. Whether you are a fresh high school graduate, a career switcher from another field, or someone with a previous diploma or degree seeking to upgrade your portfolio, MAGES provides a direct pathway into the creative tech sector. Many students join specifically because they want practical skills, not another academic qualification, and because they want to build an impressive portfolio that opens doors.
Graduates of this program have gone on to work in studios such as Ubisoft, Koei Tecmo, Century Games, Starpixel Studios, and other global and indie companies. Frequent portfolio reviews, industry talks, and alumni mentorship sessions ensure students understand real hiring expectations and studio production standards.
For those willing to commit, work hard, and push their artistic abilities, this diploma provides a clear route into the 3D game art industry. The program’s goal remains straightforward: train you properly, guide your development, and help you build a portfolio that gets you noticed by studios.

Program Outline
Game Art Fundamentals
Term 1, builds core skills in visual design and 3D modeling. Students explore sketching and digital painting to develop visual clarity, then use modeling tools to create and texture game-ready props. Photogrammetry adds real-world capture methods, as students produce 2D and 3D work grounded in early game art workflows.
Skills & Topics Explored
- Visual Development + Sketching for 3D
- Observational Drawing + Perspective Studies
- Digital Painting Basics (Photoshop)
- 3D Modeling + Low-Poly Asset Creation
- UV Mapping + Texture Painting Fundamentals
- Introduction to Game Asset Workflows
- Photogrammetry Capture + Cleanup (Value Add)
- Studio File Management + Intro to Real-Time 3D Pipeline
Game System & Platforms
In this term, Students develop character and environment assets through sculpting, modular modeling, and real-time texture workflows. A 3D printing process extends sculpted work into physical form. Assets are assembled in Unreal Engine with lighting and performance in mind, reinforcing production practices such as baking, scale management, and style consistency within a brief.
Skills & Topics Explored
- Character Form Study + Stylization Principles
- Environment Modeling + Modular Asset Design
- High-Poly Sculpting (ZBrush) + Detail Refinement
- 3D Printing Workflow (Character Head) (Value Add)
- Environment Assembly + Real-Time Lighting in Unreal Engine
- File Prep + Asset Integration for Game Pipelines
Game Art Production Studio
In this term, Students refine and assemble their assets in a studio-style environment using real-time workflows. Assets are optimized and integrated in Unreal Engine with lighting, real-time animation import. Projects emphasize presentation, scene composition, and polish-resulting in portfolio-ready work that demonstrates technical fluency and readiness for real-time production environments.
