    About : The PhD in Philosophy program offers a rigorous curriculum that enables students to engage deeply with philosophical concepts and methodologies. Throughout the program, students will develop critical thinking and analytical skills that are essential for philosophical inquiry. They will also have the opportunity to focus on specialized areas of interest and conduct original research that contributes to the field of Philosophy.
    Career Outcomes : Graduates of this program can pursue careers in academia, research, or related fields. Potential paths include university lecturer, philosopher, policy analyst, or researcher in think tanks and non-profit organizations. They may also find opportunities in publishing and writing, where their strong analytical skills will be valuable.

The University offers 25 MPhil and PhD Programmes in Arts, Business, Social Sciences and Science disciplines. In addition to admission to our PhD in Philosophy programme, the University also has popular research-based 2-year MPhil in Philosophy programme.

To offer more diversified learning opportunities, especially for interdisciplinary research studies, the University has been actively seeking collaborative opportunities with overseas universities. In the 2021-22 academic year, the University has launched the "Double PhD Degree Programme in Economics" with Wuhan University (WHU), China and the "PhD Programmes with Joint Supervision" with Shenzhen University (SZU), China in the research areas related to International Relations and Development Studies. Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at Lingnan currently has 13 faculty members. Their expertise covers all of the main areas in philosophy, including aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, history of Chinese philosophy, logic, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science. The work of Lingnan philosophers has been published by leading publishers (e.g. Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press) and in top journals (e.g. British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, Ethics, Mind, Noûs, Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophical Studies, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, and Philosophy of Science). Given the breadth and high quality of research done by Lingnan philosophers, the Department is one of the best places in Asia for undertaking doctoral studies in philosophy, especially in analytic philosophy. The department is a place of lively philosophical exchanges in our regular staff seminars and even more in informal and frequent discussions.
