Introduction
The Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, is designed to provide comprehensive training for those pursuing a career in the automotive service industry. This program is structured as a combination of on-the-job training and in-class education, following the apprenticeship model. Apprentices typically spend 80% of their time working with an employer and 20% attending classes at Loyalist College.
To enroll, students must have a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent and be at least 16 years old. Registration with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is required, and students must secure an apprenticeship with a qualified employer. The program includes courses in automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques, aiming to develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for the trade.
Students benefit from learning in state-of-the-art labs and from instructors with industry experience. Additionally, there are opportunities for early registration through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for high school students
