The new Master of Science in Athletic Training program is now accepting applications through ATCAS! This graduate program will be delivered over two years of full-time study (six consecutive terms/semesters). The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The CAATE completed its most recent comprehensive review of the program in 2018-2019, and the program received the maximum accreditation period of 10 years.
The graduate program for athletic training prepares students to succeed on the Board of Certification (BOC) examination in athletic training and become a certified athletic trainer (ATC). Lindenwood University’s average first-time pass rate over the past three years (2022-2024) on the BOC examination is 92 percent.
The athletic training program has specific eligibility requirements and utilizes a secondary application and admission process. The program accepts a maximum of 20 students into each cohort. The program utilizes a single point of entry into the program, and all new students formally begin the graduate program during the summer term. Students admitted into the program will complete a rigorous two-year curriculum that includes two summer terms, two fall semesters, and two spring semesters. Students are expected to remain continuously enrolled and will follow a specific sequence of didactic and clinical coursework designed to meet the core competencies established by the CAATE.
In addition to university tuition fees, students in the athletic training program will also be subject to a $1,000 annual program fee that covers additional costs associated with the program (e.g. lab equipment, testing services, apparel for clinical rotations, NATA memberships, ATrack subscriptions, etc). The program fee eliminates the need for individual lab fees.
Program Entry Options
The St. Louis Athletic Training degree program at Lindenwood University athletic training program provides two main pathways for prospective students to enter the program.
Post-Baccalaureate Pathway
Individuals who have already completed an undergraduate degree in a related field, as well as all program prerequisites, can apply for direct admission into this athletic training graduate degree program. This includes undergraduate students who are on track to complete their undergraduate degree and all program prerequisites prior to the time of enrollment in the master’s degree program.
Accelerated Master’s Program Pathway (3+2)
The accelerated master’s program (AMP) pathway is designed for high-achieving recent high school graduates. This athletic training degree program provides an opportunity for students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Science in Athletic Training in an accelerated 5-year format.
The accelerated master’s program also provides an early assurance option for select students. Students who meet the initial criteria, complete the first three years in the program, and meet all graduate program requirements will earn priority placement. The Early Assurance Program requires completion of an initial screening process prior to the student’s first semester at the university.
