Key Summary

About : The MA Filmmaking course offers an immersive experience in film production, emphasizing both practical skills and theoretical understanding. You'll engage in various aspects of filmmaking, from directing to post-production, over the course of two years. The program encourages experimentation and creative exploration, ensuring you develop a strong portfolio.
Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue diverse roles in the film industry, such as director, producer, or editor. Other potential career paths include working in television production, documentary filmmaking, or digital content creation. Many alumni also find opportunities in production design or cinematography.

An intensive two-year course in the heart of London, MA Filmmaking at LFS trains to a professional level in a full range of filmmaking skills. Students leave with a portfolio of directing, cinematography, editing, producing, production design and sound credits on at least 10 films, usually many more. Each year, LFS films screen at over 250 film festivals, winning many prizes, including the Cannes Palme d’Or for Best Short Film, the most prestigious festival accolade.

The course is fully practical. Each term film exercises become more technically sophisticated, more considered and more complex in their ambitions. Students make all aesthetic decisions while solving problems similar to those faced by professional units, on a steeply increasing slope of difficulty.

A Competitive Edge

All LFS students learn important filmmaking skills and practise them in a working unit. There is no film career which is not greatly enriched by an active practical knowledge of the other specialisations. This makes an LFS graduate stand out from future professional colleagues with a single specialisation, at any level. Each student will have the chance to choose a speciality in adition to learning all parts of the craft.
