Do you want to become a festival operations manager, theatre stage manager, or live music promoter? Our MA in Live Events Management will give you all the skills necessary to thrive in the events industry.
From the cultural and economic impact of global events to operations and site management, promotion and marketing and financial literacy, this postgraduate degree will give you a unique and collaborative approach to the analysis and production of live events.
Studying in the creative heart of Leeds, you’ll have the opportunity to gain professional-level involvement in the planning and execution of live events. You’ll also develop the theoretical and problem-solving skills needed to create, shape, and change live events in a post-pandemic and ever-evolving market.

Whether you are a practitioner already engaged within events and related cultural industry work, or a student who would prefer to focus on academic research, our uniquely flexible degree will allow you to combine and explore both, acknowledging that practice is also a form of research, and that research is also a form of original creativity.
Events Management (trimesters 1 and 2 )
Events Management modules in trimesters 1 and 2 focus on the planning, organisation, and execution of live events. The lectures and seminars will give students the comprehensive knowledge needed to develop their critical understanding of key practical areas of events planning and management and include elements such as feasibility studies, license agreements, budget overviews, risk assessments, market research, organisational charts, evaluation strategies, action plans, planning schedules, and contingency plans.
The module provides practical experience via opportunities at Leeds Conservatoire where the conservatoire hosts a range of commercial and internal events. In addition to the lectures and seminars students will be working with multiple stakeholders in-house to plan, prepare, and execute live events across a range of genres and styles. This will give the students the opportunity to work closely with live event professionals in a fast-paced environment, challenging them to apply theory and practical knowledge within a dynamic paradigm.
Creative Theory and Practice (trimester 1)
This module provides an understanding of the relationship between events, culture and society and explores concepts and theories of the creative industries. Students will explore events as a socio-cultural phenomenon and evaluate their history and impact on societies around the world.
By drawing on case studies from both the developing and developed world, this module will aid in the understanding of the socio-cultural dynamics of live events on a theoretical and practical level and provide students with the relevant theories, conceptual tools and factual information necessary to gain an understanding of and to engage critically with, the realities of managing, working and progressing within the cultural and creative industries.
Cultural Industries Marketing (trimester 2)
This module provides an overview of, and reflection on, concepts and theories of contemporary marketing including marketing strategy, marketing tactics and marketing actions (marketing mix) with a focus on the creative industries.
It aims to aid students in critically analysing and applying key concepts and theories of contemporary marketing and their context and use within the cultural industries. It will address marketing roles within organisations and their impact on society and will give opportunities for students to explore marketing within the global creative industries using case studies.
Major Project (trimester 3)
Students will be expected to undertake a Major Project relevant to their professional and creative interests. Deploying a critical application of theory in practice, this module will support students through the development of their major project.
Students will be responsible for the direction of their chosen project and will need to be able to justify the rationale, originality, and viability of their decisions. The project’s focus will be agreed upon by the beginning of the trimester with a specialist tutor.
With a deep understanding of the creative and industrial contexts within which your practice exists, as an alumnus, you will be prepared for a career as a musician.
Our postgraduate students have received commissions, performed at regional and international festivals including South by South West, The Reeperbahn Festival, Glastonbury and Live at Leeds, progressed to teaching positions, and created public installations.
