Key Summary
Equip yourself with the expertise to contribute more effectively to the delivery of an MSc in Health and Community Care. You will increase your knowledge of new developments in the field, gain finely tuned time management and prioritisation skills and hone your understanding of the complex issues at the forefront of your specialist area.
This course incorporates a variety of modules to meet the needs of a wide range of healthcare environments. Emphasis is placed on self-directed and lifelong learning, and you will be given one-to-one support to plan and organise a personalised programme of study.
You will have the opportunity to consider your area of practice in significant depth and further develop your critical analysis and reasoning skills. With our part-time option, you will have the flexibility to study at your own pace to fit your learning around your work and personal commitments.

Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through several modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Advanced Health Assessment
Enhance your knowledge and expertise in core body systems that practitioners are required to assess, e.g. cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal, head and neck etc.
Assessment & Management of Complex Health Conditions
Your studies will build upon the Advanced Health Assessment module to focus on complexity and pathophysiology.
Evidencing Professional Learning (20 credits)
Develop autonomy in your professional and academic development in a specific area of practice that you have identified.

Infection Prevention & Control
Increase your knowledge and skills in the prevention and control of infection in healthcare. This module will focus on exploring best practices to critique, evaluate and improve current practice.
Legal & Ethical Practice in Health & Community Care
This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to critique and evaluate the ethical and legal theories, principles and concepts that underpin current health and social care practice.
Non-Medical Prescribing (NMC)
If you are a registered health professional, this module will allow you to achieve the required legal and professional standards to register as a Non-Medical Prescriber.
Non-Medical Prescribing for AHPs (HCPC)
Achieve the required professional standards to be able to register as a non-medical prescriber. This module will be recorded with the Nursing and Midwifery Council/Health and Care Professions Council as applicable.
Professional Portfolio Development in the Context of Health & Community Care
Critically reflect on your experience, identifying future learning needs in the context of your role in shaping current health and social care policy and practice.
Public Health in Practice
This module provides healthcare practitioners with the knowledge and skills to appraise complex problems as they present within contemporary health and care services. As you study, you'll use higher levels of autonomy to learn how to advocate for social justice, applying knowledge, skills, and behaviours to address the widening health inequalities in our society. You'll analyse community assets and evaluate place-based approaches to support the positive health and well-being of people across the diverse communities and populations you serve.
Recognition and Management of the Acutely Ill Adult Patient
This module is an option if you are a professionally qualified nurse or other allied healthcare professionals caring for deteriorating patients, or patients at risk of acute physical deterioration within either primary or secondary care settings. You'll increase your knowledge, skills and understanding of the prevention, recognition and therapeutic management of the acutely ill adult patient.
Your course is highly focused on improving your career prospects. We will provide you with continued professional development so you are up to speed with best practices in health and community care. Following graduation, you could work as a healthcare practitioner, or community development worker or advance your career in your present role.
