Teaching And Learning

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university. You will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through several modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

What you'll learn

Marketing Dynamics

Take a strategic approach to harnessing both traditional and digital-based marketing concepts and activities. You'll take an integrated approach to identifying a range of challenges and opportunities. You'll develop the contemporary marketing knowledge and skills required for being a professional in the competitive digital world of the 21st century.

Operations & Logistics Management

Study a range of operations and logistics management techniques. You'll take a comprehensive approach to managing operational resources and associated supply chain management principles. You'll develop critical thinking and decision-making for the operational and logistical aspects of an enterprise. This module will enable you to understand strategies for planning and coordination in a supply chain.

Becoming a Master Manager

This module has been developed around Quinn and Rohrbaugh's Competing Values Framework. You'll study the major indicators of effective organisations and the two major dimensions underlying conceptions of effectiveness: organisational focus and organisational preference for structure. You'll learn how to use the framework to critique leadership effectiveness.

Personal & Professional Development

Boost your personal, academic and professional skills through reflective practice. You’ll be supported to achieve your full learning potential and develop career progression strategies.

Strategic Management

Evaluate decisions that managers are faced with in complex and dynamic environments, combining multiple perspectives of business and management (leadership, creativity and human capital, finance and environmental analytics, creativity and strategic thinking approach).

Financial Analysis

This module will enable you to develop key decision-making skills by applying accounting and financial techniques to assist in control and planning at the management level. You'll study a range of financial and management accounting concepts and techniques and how they can be used by leaders to evaluate a company’s financial performance. You'll explore the main principles of financial and management accounting. Your studies will have a strong practical emphasis on how accounting information can be used to improve to quality of decision-making by managers and business leaders.

MBA Work Placement / MBA Consultancy Project Part 1

Apply your learning to an organisational issue over a 3-6 month placement. You'll be encouraged to work independently, supported by a business mentor, and also manage an employee-manager relationship.

Applied AI for Business Processes

AI has become a game-changer in the business landscape, with the potential to revolutionise traditional approaches to managing and optimising processes. In today's data-driven era, organisations need to harness the power of AI to extract valuable insights, automate tasks, and make informed decisions. This module addresses the growing demand for professionals, who possess a strong foundation in both business management and AI, to drive digital transformation and stay competitive in an increasingly AI-driven business environment. You'll focus on the practical application of AI techniques to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and decision-making within organisations. You'll develop a deep understanding of the potential of AI in transforming various business processes. Additionally, you'll gain hands-on experience in utilising AI tools and methodologies.

Cross Cultural Human Resource Management

This module will explore the special characteristics of human resource management (HRM) in multinational corporations. You'll consider convergence and continuing divergence in the HRM structures, policies and practices of different countries. You'll focus on applying theory and principles in dealing with the complexities of international HRM issues.

Global Business Strategy

Examine global business strategy perspectives for organisations and key actors. This module will address the strategic and management issues that multinational, global and other organisations face whilst operating across borders. You'll review the main aspects of operating globally, from strategic analysis to issues of formulation and implementation in the various business functions. You'll also analyse the key strategic and managerial challenges for firms. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to develop and implement business strategies within a variety of organisational and geographical settings. To achieve this, you'll study how managers can use a variety of analytical tools to craft a strategy to help the organisation gain and maintain its competitive advantage and achieve its objectives. You'll be introduced to the language, analytical tools, frameworks and normative models of strategic management. You'll consider strategy from various organisational settings, including public and not-for-profit. You'll understand the 'why', 'what', 'where' and 'how' of strategy.

Professional Practices in Sustainability

Examine the elements, processes and techniques involved in the development and implementation of professional practices for managing sustainability, responsibility and ethics. You'll evaluate decision-making in complex and dynamic environments and explore the concepts of professional management critically. This module focuses on the practical application of conceptual frameworks for professional management to gain optimum effect.

Strategic Brand Management (only available to September starters who have studied Marketing Dynamics)

Understand the role branding and brand management play in today’s dynamic and highly competitive marketing environment. You'll study branding, consumer relationships with brands and the brand management process in a dynamic and global operating environment.

Strategic Marketing (only available to January starters)

Develop an appreciation of strategic marketing tools, including brand and online strategies, used by managers to assess their company's market and achieve a competitive advantage.

Corporate Finance

Evaluate the fundamental concepts and theories of modern finance, identifying how these can be effectively applied in both national and multinational organisations.

Interpreting Financial & Accounting Information (only available to January starters)

We'll explore a wide range of financial reporting topics, from the preparation and presentation of single-entity financial statements and interpretation of IFRS-based accounting policies and published accounts, to group reporting and the analysis of financial reports. We'll also help you examine the financial markets, discuss how financing needs are assessed through planning, budgeting, and forecasting, and look at the importance of cash and cash management. You'll review various sources of finance, both long and short-term, and their associated advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we'll cover the concepts of cost of capital and capital structure used in financial decision-making, followed by management of working capital. You'll gain insights into risk assessment techniques, consider the impact of risk on investment appraisal, and discuss the techniques that can be used for company analysis and business valuation.

Investment & Fund Management (only available to September starters)

You will identify, understand, evaluate and compare types of investment for the private investor, including tools, methods and strategies.

At the end of the PG Certificate level, students will be able to:

1. Critically evaluate and justify current information and create new connections between theory, method, and strategies to be applied.
2. Work collaboratively with individuals and groups in varied settings with awareness of the process and outcomes of a trainee manager.
3. At the end of the PG Diploma level, students will have achieved all of the above plus be able to:

• Apply skills, both theoretical and practical, to contemporary organizations and provide solutions to underperforming areas identified.
