Key Summary
About: The Master of Electrical Engineering at KU Leuven covers design and implementation of electronic circuits and ICT solutions for smart health, autonomous vehicles, wearables and power systems. You’ll learn signal processing algorithms, software, hardware and IC design within integrated system design. The programme has four options, strong industry links, spin‑offs, and Erasmus+ internships.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can enter systems engineering, embedded-systems design, integrated circuit (IC) design, signal-processing engineering, ICT architecture, product development, R&D and industry roles in health tech, automotive, wearables and energy. Roles include hardware engineer, firmware developer, research engineer and consultant. electronics, embedded systems, sensors, control, communications.
The Master of Electrical Engineering programme is a comprehensive course of study providing graduate students with the foundational knowledge needed to pioneer the next generation of networked, integrated systems.
About this Programme
The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering teaches the design and implementation of innovative electronic circuits and ICT solutions for almost every sector: from smart health to self-driving cars, from the latest wearables to massive power plants. You’ll learn how to solve problems using signal processing algorithms, software, hardware and ICs as complementary components of a truly integrated design.
Our goal is to equip you with the necessary technical skills and methods to contribute to the creation of this digital environment. The program counts four options, each with its own emphasis.
Programme strengths
The Electrical Engineering Department is the largest department within the university. The professors are internationally renowned in areas as diverse as analogue design, cryptography, deep learning, system theory, autonomous vehicles, power systems, and wireless communication … Students can choose in which direction they wish to specialise.
The department was the starting point of time and many spin-off companies. The professors have strong contacts with industry. The close link between education and research exposes students to challenging and ground-breaking topics during their coursework and master's thesis research. Your master's thesis carried out in close cooperation with the department's ongoing research, will expose you to cutting-edge research.
At the Faculty of Engineering Science, students are given the opportunity to complete one or two semesters abroad within the Erasmus+ programme at a European university, or a university outside Europe. Students are also encouraged to carry out industrial and research internships abroad under the supervision of the Internship Coordinator.
