Key Summary
The master’s programme in Civil and Architectural Engineering fosters graduates who will design and build our future homes and infrastructure, with a deep understanding of human conditions and needs and urgent demands for sustainability. In one of two specialisations, students explore either techniques for design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure or engineering design of buildings with a focus on performance and lifecycle perspective.
Civil and Architectural Engineering at KTH
This master's programme gives you advanced knowledge in the field of Structural Engineering as well as in the subjects of Civil or Architectural Engineering. You learn how to implement this knowledge by comprehensively understanding buildings and infrastructure as advanced technical systems. The programme offers advanced-level courses that often relate to real-life projects and the use of state-of-the-art tools for design and modelling.
The programme offers two main tracks: Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering. The Civil Engineering track is devoted to techniques for the design, construction and maintenance of roads, streets, railway tracks, bridges and tunnels. The Architectural Engineering track focuses on engineering design and analysis of buildings with an emphasis on system-level performance from a lifecycle perspective. The teaching methods comprise a mix of lectures, exercises, projects and laboratory work. During the programme, students interact with industry in various ways, including project work in collaboration with industry experts and the involvement of industry experts as teachers.
The programme ends with a degree project relating to an issue within the field, focusing on investigating and analysing a problem. The project is an opportunity for you to interact with both industry and current research.
This is a two-year programme, 120 ECTS credits, in English. Graduates will be awarded a Master of Science degree. The programme is given at the KTH Campus in Stockholm by the School of Architecture and Built Environment (at KTH).

Deferment of student loans in the United States
KTH is an accredited institution at the US Department of Education and holds a Title IV 'Deferment Only' status (OPE ID 03274300). US students may defer payments on existing federal student loan accounts while enrolled in a master’s programme at KTH. The 'Deferment Only' status does not allow students to take out federal student loans for enrollment at KTH. However, the accreditation facilitates grant and loan opportunities for US students, as many private student loan institutions in the US use this designation as a requirement to grant new loans. Students who wish to defer payments must contact their lending institution in the US.
